Day 1: Arrive in Rwanda
Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be met by our safari guide who will take you around the famous Kigali city on your way to your hotel for rest prior to your drive to the National park.
Day 2: Head to Volcanoes National Park
You will be transferred north on a scenic drive through Rwandan countryside to Ruhengeri township at the foothills of the Volcanoes by your safari guide. After checking in at your lodge you may go for a cultural visit around and a community walk. After Dinner you will rest early in preparation for the big day.
Day 3: Gorilla Trekking
You will wake up quiet early for breakfast and having secured a packed lunch you will drive to Kinigi at the park headquarters were you will have a briefing about the Mountain Gorillas and how to behave while in their home. This activity has no estimated time as it depends on how far the gorillas are therefore you will have no extra activity it is quite a hectic but rewarding experience. Return to the lodge for dinner and a good rest.
Day 4: Dian Fossey Grave
Here comes a morning on which you are to participate in the hike to karisoke Gorilla Research that is a project set up by Dian Fossey whose grave you hike to. Her effort to conserve and protect the endangered mountain gorillas definitely didn’t go to waste. The hike offers a good opportunity to see birds and many other animals leaving in the forest of the Virungas en-route. If time allows, visit the twin lakes which offer dramatic view across the water to the volcanically formed cones of the Virunga Mountains looming in the horizon.
Day 5: Golden Monkey Tracking
Another happy day for a Rwanda safari tourist, after breakfast, you will have a golden monkey track. These golden monkeys are the most endangered primates in the Volcanoes. Only six people can go tracking and you are lucky to be part of them, and the track will take most of the day. After the trek, return to the lodge for relaxation and If you have the energy this afternoon,you can go for Iby’iwacu Cultural Village.
Day 6: Return to Kigali
After breakfast you will have a drive south to Kigali and have a city tour if you missed it the first day which and then later reach Kigali International Airport in time for your flight back home.
Please note that the gorilla safari prices have greatly been affected by the gorilla permit price increase which is at $1,500 in Rwanda. To get a reduced price, you may choose to do gorilla trekking in Uganda landing in Rwanda and crossing the border where a permit is at $600.
